Blue Skies For Charlie Day

A little over a year ago our family suffered an enormous loss with the passing of our beautiful baby grandson Charlie. Charlie was with us earthside for seven weeks and we are so grateful to have that time with him, however it was a period of enormous shock, sadness, anxiety and grief. Charlie's parents, our son Tom and daughter in law to be Caitlin, suffered unimaginable trauma through the loss of their first child, with Caitlin also needing months of ongoing medical care after serious birthing complications. 

Throughout the darkness though, there were moments of extraordinary light through some of the incredible support this brand new family and extended family were given. After six weeks in hospital Charlie, Tom and Caitlin were able to spent the last four days of Charlie's life at Hummingbird House; Queensland's only children's hospice and one of only three children's hospices in Australia. Hummingbird House allowed Tom and Caitlin to enjoy just being parents to Charlie away from the neonate ward and hospital environment, and were there to support them in Charlie's last few days then through and beyond his passing. Having not been aware of Hummingbird House before Charlie, we will always be so overwhelmingly grateful for what they gave us all as a family, which has been ongoing since Charlie's passing.

Blue Skies For Charlie Day will be our families way of celebrating Charlies life, and we want to use this special day to raise funds for Hummingbird House. By donating, you are helping to provide essential support to families like Charlie, Tom and Caitlin, and also specialised paediatric palliative care services to babies, children and young people with a life-limiting condition.
