In loving memory of Theodore “Teddy” Arthur Johnston.
On 9 February 2026, our lives changed forever when we welcomed our first child, our beautiful baby boy Teddy, into the world. After suffering complications at birth, we spent precious days beside him in the NICU at Mater Mother’s Hospital before our sweet boy sadly passed away at Hummingbird House on 19 February 2026, at just 10 days old.
Teddy was loved deeply and completely from the very beginning by us, his mum and dad, Tamara and Ben, and by all of his family. In his short life, he gave us a love so profound it changed us forever. He will always be our son, our first baby, and the most treasured part of our hearts and lives.
In Teddy’s honour, his Uncle Jake, Aunty Gabby and extended family are taking on the Gold Coast Marathon (42km). Later in the year, his Uncle Dylan is also taking on the Ultra Trail Kosciuszko (100km) and Coastal High (50km) to raise funds for Hummingbird House, Queensland’s only children’s hospice.
During Teddy’s final hours, Hummingbird House gave us something we will forever be grateful for. They gave us the chance to simply be Teddy’s mum and dad. In the midst of unimaginable heartbreak, they created a space filled with love, gentleness and peace. They allowed us to hold our little boy close, curl up together in bed as a family, watch the sunset with him in our arms, and spend uninterrupted time memorising every tiny part of him we never want to forget.
In the days that followed, Hummingbird House became a place of refuge for us and our family. They surrounded us with extraordinary compassion, warmth and care. They provided meals, comfort, guidance and support, while quietly helping coordinate the overwhelming details that follow the loss of a child. When we were too broken to carry the weight of it all ourselves, they carried pieces of it for us.
The memories they gave us with Teddy are among the most precious we will ever hold.
This fundraiser is our way of honouring Teddy’s life, carrying his beautiful name forward, and helping support other families facing heartbreak no family should ever have to endure.
