Simple tips to boost your fundraising efforts for Hummingbird House!
1. Personalise your online fundraising page.
Add a photo or video of yourself to your fundraising page. Let everyone see the wonderful face of the person committed to helping others!
2. Why are you doing the event?
Maybe you are up for a challenge? Maybe you want to support the cause? Whatever your reasons, make sure you add a description and tell people why you are fundraising.
3. Set a target.
Decide how much money you want to raise. Make your goal ambitious but realistic.
4. Kickstart fundraising with your own donation.
Show your commitment by making the first donation - this will set the benchmark for other donations as well.
5. Tell EVERYONE.
We’re talking friends, family, co-workers, neighbours… EVERYONE! Send everyone an e-mail with a link to your fundraising page asking them to donate. Post a link to your fundraising page on social media. Get the word out!
6. Host an event.
An event, big or small, can be a great way to reach your target in one hit. Host a bake sale, trivia night, high tea, bootcamp or yoga session, sports challenge or whatever event suits your network. Pick something you know people in your family and friends will enjoy doing. Successful events should be simple and fun, and remember to keep overheads low to maximise fundraising profit!
7. Get your workplace involved by asking them to match your donation.
Many workplaces match the fundraising efforts of their staff, so don’t be shy, talk to your boss or charity committee about how to make this happen. Put a notice in the business newsletter with your page link.
8. Use your network to spread the word.
Your regular email and social media activities are a great way to get the word out about your event. Add a sentence to your email signature, or if you’re on social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter, post a link to your fundraising page on your profile. Share progress updates and ask your followers to donate.
9. Follow up anyone who hasn’t responded.
Some folks may have missed your email or were too busy to act. Follow up anyone who hasn’t responded to your request for a donation with a polite reminder.
10. Keep on fundraising once your event finishes.
You’d be surprised how many donations are received after you have successfully completed the challenge. Email everyone you approached to tell them how your event went and thank those who supported you. You might prompt a last-minute donation from the ones that forgot.
The number one reason people donate to charities is because they were asked. The more people you ask to support you, the more funds you will raise and the more people we can help. So don’t delay – start asking!
