Red Bag Appeal 2023

Give a little, gift a lot.

Each year, thousands of Queensland families cannot afford a Christmas meal. Did you know that more than 3.7 million Australians are experiencing food insecurity and more than 60% of households are reliant on Jobseeker payment?* Queenslanders are forced to choose between food, medical care, and bills due to rising inflation.

You can help by spreading a little joy this Christmas.

Donate online

Fill a bag has ended, but you can still purchase a 'virtual bag' by donating online.

The Red Bag Appeal is our way of helping these families in crisis experience the joy and hope of Christmas, by providing them with Christmas items, toys and food they might otherwise go without. Our aim is to distribute 3,000 Red Bags for food relief before Christmas and raise over $80,000 for Emergency Relief to meet growing demand.

The Impact of Giving

Hear from Denise, from Wesley Mission Queensland's Emergency Relief Hub.

“This year, with the Red Bags, I’m expecting a lot more people, not just on Centrelink to come in, but families to come in, because with the high cost of living, they’re going to need extra help.”

Support for Families

Hear from Michelle, from Wesley Mission Queensland's Robina Emergency Hub.

“The majority of people that received the Red Bag are families with young or adult children. A lot of kids that come through are going to school with no food. When I turn up with a Red Bag, they say to me We are now going to have a Christmas.”

1. Collect your bags

Choose any registered Storage King location or WMQ service from Monday 30 October

Fill a Bag has ended, but you can still purchase a 'virtual bag' bay donating online

2. Fill your bags

Full of Christmas essentials and goodies, or purchase a ‘virtual bag’ (donate the cost of a bag)

Check out the Shopping List for the items needed in every bag.

3. Return your bags

Drop your filled bags back to a registered Storage King location by Friday 24 November

4. Red Bags are collected

Red Bags are then picked up from all Storage King locations on Monday 27 November and taken to our warehouse.

5. Re-packed or checked

Our group of amazing corporate volunteers checks all bags and repack if needed. We'll make sure every bag has an equal amount of essentials and goodies for Queenslanders in need.

6. Distribution to community

Red Bags are then distributed through several WMQ services throughout the Christmas period, including our Emergency Relief Hub in Fortitude Valley, bringing hope and joy to those who need it most.
