Hummingbird House

Chermside parkrun is proudly raising funds for Hummingbird House, Queensland's only children's hospice, and a truly special organisation that provides support for families loving and caring for a baby, child or young person with a life-limiting condition.

By joining us in supporting Hummingbird House, you’re letting these families know that we care, and they are not alone.

Families lives are taken up by the 24/7 responsibilities of caring for their baby, child or young person living with a life-limiting condition.  Our support also means that they can access essential services like family support, a range of therapies, short respite breaks wherever they live in Queensland.

Together, let’s help them make every moment precious when time is short.

Eva’s Story

Tuesday 8th Aug
Eva was born on 20th May 2016, and was diagnosed with Cockayne Syndrome shortly before her first birthday. 

Cockayne Syndrome is a degenerative, premature-aging condition that results in a very shortened life. It is caused by a fault in one of the genes, and is extremely rare. 

Eva sadly passed away just after her 7th birthday on 9th July 2023. 

Eva was an active part of the Chermside parkrun community, and loved participating in hundreds of “pram parkruns” with her mum, dad and sister Ivy over her life. 

This year, as part of their Anniversary Celebration, Chermside parkrun is raising money in memory of Eva for Hummingbird House - Queenslands’s only children’s hospice. Hummingbird House provided invaluable support and care to Eva and her family throughout her life, including repsite stays, hydrotherapy, music therapy and after death care. 

Any donation will go a long way in helping other children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
