Queensland’s only children’s hospice
Right now, there are over 5,700 Queensland families loving and caring for a child with a life-limiting condition. Sadly, this means that their child is not expected to reach adulthood.
The emotional, physical and financial struggle for some families can be overwhelming. And the opportunity to stay connected – to their partners, other children, family and friends – almost impossible, as they navigate their roles as 24-7 carers.

Hummingbird House supports hundreds of families from right across Queensland and strives to provide true choice about when, where and how they receive our care. Families can choose to access our services at our purpose-built home away from home in Brisbane, or in their home or community.
"From our very first stay Kenz LOVED Hummingbird House. The arts and crafts, music therapy, discos in the pool, parties or just watching the sunset from the rooftop.”
- Sheryl, McKenzie’s mum
Who we are
What are the services provided?
At Hummingbird House we support guests to live their life to the fullest, for as long as they can. We do this by providing short break stays, crisis or symptom management, family support, neonatal/perinatal support, and a wide range of allied health care. We also provide families a caring embrace when the time comes to say goodbye to their child through end of life care, after death care and grief and bereavement support.
Who can access Hummingbird House?
Hummingbird House provides care and support to any eligible family in Queensland. Our wide range of services are offered face to face, in a family’s home, in the community, or over the phone.
How much does it cost to receive care and support from Hummingbird House?
Hummingbird House families don’t incur any out-of-pocket costs to receive our care and support. We work hard to keep things this way, because we understand that the emotional, physical and financial struggle for some families can be overwhelming. Our support is only possible thanks to the generosity and support of corporate and community supporters - like you.
How you can help
Each year, the cost to operate Hummingbird House continues to grow while we ensure our services are offered to families at no cost to them. While we receive some funding to cover these costs, we have an ongoing gap that requires support from the community to keep things this way.
Your donation, no matter how much you give, will truly make a difference.
